Tiago Varela is a multidisciplinary artist where drawing, music, and architecture alternate.

He studied accordion at the Instituto Vitorino Matono in Lisbon and completed a postgraduate degree in Musical Sciences - Music and Technology at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

A multi-instrumentalist, he works with the strings (6 and 12) of his preferred guitars, with the keys (or buttons) of various mechanical and electronic instruments, but also with air: in his voice and in the breath of melodicas (sometimes simultaneously), in the fans of the primordial electric organs, or in the bellows of the accordion. He interprets songs like poems in a vast and circular repertoire cultivated since childhood.

He is involved in several projects of exploratory music, most notably Isotope Ensemble, Suspensão, IKB, and VGO (Variable Geometry Orchestra), all of which have released albums under the artistic direction of violinist Ernesto Rodrigues.

Since 2013, he has worked in a duo with Monsieur Trinité on the project Welcome to Silkeborg (electric piano, melodicas and various objects), whose name refers to Art Brut and the universe of the Danish painter from Silkeborg, Asger Jorn.

In the area of sound engineering and design (recording, mixing, and mastering), he has produced several works published by the labels Creative Sources, Sons da Terra, Nariz Entupido, and Clean Feed.
